What do you attribute your success to?
When I began my college education at LSU (Baton Rouge), I was fortunate enough to find a job with a local attorney. He showed me the proper way to run an office, manage three sets of books (overhead, clients, and escrow), prepare legal documents, and get organized. I have been able to translate every skill from that experience to my everyday life and work. I also had "knock it out the park" English teachers in high school and eighth grade. Those ladies honed my writing and grammar skills to transform me into a marketable document creator and manager.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Don't overthink it!
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be careful in whom you confide and trust. Not everyone is as enthusiastic about your success as you are. Some people actually watch for others to sabotage and do it with smiles on their faces.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
A lot of companies think that documentation is expendable and that AI can do it all. Nothing beats the human touch and nuances that only an experienced writer can add. I once worked for a company whose management told me that they are a chemical company, not a documentation company. Without well-written documents, those companies fail audits they need to pass to stay in business. Writers are not after-thoughts.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The biggie is honesty. I can't stand a liar!
