Her Story
About Elaina
Elaina Parker is an exploration geologist whose passion for discovery and scientific curiosity has quickly established her as a rising professional in the mining and mineral exploration industry. As an Exploration Geologist with Scout Discoveries, she works on exploration projects in central Idaho, where she is responsible for detailed drill core logging, monitoring drilling operations, conducting field inspections, and collaborating closely with drill crews to advance mineral discovery efforts. After earning her bachelor's degree in geology with a minor in natural resources from the University of Idaho, Elaina transitioned from an internship at the Lucky Friday Mine in Idaho's Silver Valley into exploration geology. She is also a licensed Geologist in Training and has been selected by Scout Discoveries to pursue a company-funded master's degree in geology at Oregon State University, where she will specialize in copper porphyry systems.
Although early in her professional career, Elaina has already earned recognition for her academic excellence, leadership, and dedication to the field. While attending the University of Idaho, she maintained a 4.0 GPA, served as president of the Geology Club, and received the Outstanding Junior Award in 2024 and the College of Science Dean's Award in 2025 for representing the Department of Earth and Spatial Sciences with distinction. She credits much of her success to the mentors and colleagues who have invested in her growth, particularly Sydney Acido at Scout Discoveries, whose guidance has helped shape her technical skills and confidence as a field geologist. Elaina believes that building strong professional relationships and remaining open to learning are essential to long-term success.
Driven by perseverance and a genuine enthusiasm for geology, Elaina is passionate about encouraging more young people—especially young women—to pursue careers in the geosciences. She understands the challenges of working in a traditionally male-dominated industry and advocates for courage, resilience, and a willingness to stand out by embracing new opportunities and hands-on field experience. In addition to her work in exploration, she enjoys speaking with students and community groups to introduce them to the exciting world of geology and mineral exploration. Through her work, continued education, and commitment to mentoring the next generation, Elaina is helping shape the future of responsible mineral discovery.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Elaina
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say just the people around me. I've had some really helpful people even just in this company that have helped me learn a lot and have been really great mentors to me. They've been super great for advice in situations that are hard to ask about.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Networking is a huge part especially in an industry where it's obviously super male-dominated. Getting to talk to a lot of different people that have been in the industry for longer is super great advice. Just getting to hear experiences from other people and learning from the things that they learned in their career. Just making connections within the industry.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say just have courage and do your best to stand out in whatever way you can. Whether it be academically or just going out and doing cool things in your industry and trying new things. Don't be afraid to get out there and do it.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Being a woman in a very male-dominated industry. Sometimes we are compared to standards that are out of our reach. It's been hard having hurtful things said about you or other colleagues and just having to remember that it's not your fault and you're doing the best that you can.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Perseverance. I've obviously gone through a lot of challenging experiences and in this industry sometimes things can be tough or frustrating and you just gotta keep your head up and keep moving forward.
