About Elder Sheila

Elder Sheila Black is a community leader, faith-based advocate, and host of the Touching U Talk Show, a weekly streaming program dedicated to highlighting ministries, entrepreneurs, and inspiring individuals making a positive impact in their communities. Based in Arlington, Texas, she balances her work as a full-time professional with her passion for creating meaningful connections, using her platform to encourage others and serve as a trusted community resource. What began during the COVID-19 pandemic as an idea suggested by a coworker has grown into a thriving movement centered on uplifting people through faith, fellowship, and collaboration.

Building on the success of the Touching U Talk Show, Black has expanded the Touching U brand into a variety of intergenerational community initiatives, including Touching U Girlfriends Gatherings, Touching U Girly Girls Gatherings, Grandma's Gatherings, and special community experiences such as private movie premieres. She is also an active participant in the Outpouring Women's Conference, where she helps equip women with spiritual encouragement, business resources, professional development opportunities, and practical life skills. Through these initiatives, she creates welcoming spaces where people of all ages can connect, grow, and support one another.

Black attributes her success to her unwavering faith and the love for people that she believes God has placed in her heart. Having previously owned businesses before launching her community-focused ministry, she now measures success by the lives she touches rather than financial gain. Her guiding philosophy is to connect the people she knows with the people she loves, fostering relationships that strengthen communities. She encourages aspiring women leaders to "do it afraid," emphasizing the importance of courage, preparation, mentorship, and collaboration as essential ingredients for lasting success.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Elder Sheila

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would just say the Spirit of God, and the reason why I say that, if it wasn't for God putting that love for people in my heart then I probably will be out chasing the dollar. Before, I was the Avon lady. I've had a bounce house company. I was always trying to sell something, and chasing customers, and even with the life insurance, I try to make sure that I'm not chasing the money. So I believe it's just that love in my heart for people. And just being a blessing.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would just say do it. Do it afraid. Do your research. Most definitely do your research. But do it afraid. The one thing that just paralyzed us and make us not do anything. But if you do it afraid, just get out there and do it. Partner with someone who is already doing it. And that's one thing about our group. It's about partnership. Partner with someone that's already doing it. Get you a mentor. And let your mentor help you. That's the best advice. Do it afraid, get you a mentor. And do your research.
