Her Story

About Elena

I've been passionate about art for over 30 years, and for the last 20 years I've dedicated myself to being an educator of art and an art therapist. I successfully run Art Galaxy Academy, an art school for all ages that I've been operating in the United States for the last 10 years, with studios in both Austin, Texas and Miami, where it all started. My newest project is called In Light Art, which showcases my sculptures and art therapy sessions. I'm focusing on expanding art therapy and personal consulting through online sessions over the next 5 years, with the goal of going global since I've already traveled to more than 45 countries. I recently completed my certification as an art therapist, and I've witnessed transformative results with my students, particularly those on the autism spectrum or with ADHD. In several cases, students have had their diagnoses removed and transitioned from special education to regular classes after practicing art with me. Some have even received scholarships to prestigious universities in Boston, London, and the Los Angeles Animation Studio Disney. These success stories inspire me to continue developing art therapy as a core part of my career, where I can consult with people, help them paint or sculpt their feelings, and watch them heal by sublimating their internal struggles into objects of art. I also create my own artwork, including landscapes and sculptures. My sculpture series Eternal Light features two human hands holding a light bulb, representing my belief that every human being should bring light to this world through their actions, contributions, and good intentions. Right now I'm working on a large 30x40 landscape piece of a sunrise, and I have pieces exhibited at Hill Country Galleria and the Bee Cave Arts Foundation in Austin.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to observation and focus. Observation is the key, a philosophic concept that gives you the real picture of what's happening. As humans, we're always rushing and don't have enough time to focus on planning, which is why we only accomplish part of our intentions in life. But observation gives you more tools and more wisdom to keep focused on the right things and prioritize life events. When I was younger, I did a lot of things at the same time, and most of them didn't make any sense when trying to get results. But when you take a pause and observe, identify one main thing, and focus on only one thing at a time, that's when real progress happens. I tried many things in my life, from athletics to swimming to playing piano, and I got results in all of them. But only art was my real passion, my real inspiration, the place where I feel I'm not working anymore. Now my time is happiness, especially when I'm providing sessions and I can see the inspiration in the eyes of my customers, students, and clients. Watching people get inspired, gain motivation to go home and paint, create exhibitions, and make sets of artwork is incredible. It's like lighting up people, and that fulfillment is what drives my success.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The most important value to me is bringing light to the world through every action and intention. This is the core concept behind my Eternal Light sculpture series, where two human hands hold a light bulb, symbolizing that every human being should bring light to this world through their actions, contributions, and good intentions. As humans, we have the power to make our impact timeless, like a piece of art, and every single person can bring this eternal light through goodness. I also deeply value observation and patience. Taking time to observe before acting gives you wisdom and helps you focus on what truly matters. In my work, I value seeing the transformation in people, whether it's students developing social skills and concentration through art, or clients healing by sublimating their internal struggles into art objects. Time is one of the biggest values these days, and I prioritize spending my time in ways that bring happiness and inspiration to others.
