About Elena
With 21 years of experience in education, I am a high school physics teacher specializing in AP physics instruction. I also serve as a table leader for the AP exam, contributing to the evaluation and scoring process at the national level. My path to education was unique - I started my career as a mechanical engineer in the business world before transitioning into teaching. This real-world engineering experience has proven invaluable in the classroom, allowing me to connect physics concepts to live applications and help students understand how the material applies in practice. My students appreciate hearing about my engineering background and seeing the practical side of what they're learning. Teaching physics as a woman in a male-dominated field has not been easy, but I believe my industry experience and perspective help me serve as an important role model, especially for young women considering careers in STEM fields. I'm currently exploring ways to leverage my teaching expertise and curriculum design skills, potentially transitioning back into the corporate world in a learning and development capacity.
