Her Story
About Elesha
Elesha is a dedicated special education professional, educator, and mentor with more than 23 years of experience supporting students with emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges. Currently serving as a Special Education Teacher and Case Manager at KIPP Philadelphia Public Schools, she is committed to creating inclusive learning environments where every student has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their circumstances or adversity. Her work is grounded in the belief that all children can learn when they are provided with the right support, high expectations, and compassionate guidance.
Throughout her career, Elesha has specialized in emotional support, behavioral management, and individualized education, helping students develop the skills and confidence needed to thrive both inside and outside the classroom. In addition to her work in K–12 education, she serves as Program Coordinator for Securing Her Experience, a nonprofit organization where she develops youth programming, facilitates social-emotional learning and yoga classes, teaches conflict resolution, and organizes community events and fundraising initiatives. Her experience also includes curriculum development and AI evaluation work, contributing her expertise in special education to help shape educational technology solutions. Motivated by her own experiences with professional burnout and personal loss, Elesha founded Heartworks, an initiative dedicated to creating practical resources for educators through e-books, mentorship, and professional development designed to support teacher well-being and effectiveness.
Elesha holds a bachelor's degree from Lincoln University and has earned certifications as a Social-Emotional Learning Facilitator, a 500-hour Yoga Instructor, and a Breathe For Change Wellness, SEL, and Yoga Teacher. By integrating evidence-based educational practices with mindfulness and social-emotional learning, she empowers both students and educators to build resilience, foster meaningful relationships, and create lasting positive outcomes. Through every aspect of her work, Elesha remains passionate about equipping teachers with the tools they need while ensuring every child is seen, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my patience, guidance, and the rock-solid support from my family. Without those things my foundation wouldn't be as strong.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Stay authentic and stay true to myself. That has helped me focus and stay on track in my career.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Stay authentic and true to yourself. Have compassion because you never know what the children are going through. Be open, willing to do the work, and have resilience.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges are lack of administrative support and focus on policies and procedures instead of caring about the kids and teaching the whole child.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
In my personal life family is key. In my professional life integrity, compassion, empathy and love are most important.
