Her Story
About Elizabeth
I've been in the building materials industry for nearly 10 years, and what drives me today is what my kids tell people - that their mommy makes people's dreams come true. That's how I feel about my work. I sit down with people and put together their aspirations and their dreams and their colors, and find the right products to build their dream home. It's amazing. I started at Lumberman's as a customer service rep, learning the industry from the inside, learning the conversations and all the parts and pieces to navigating the structure of putting together a project - whether it's a home, multifamily, or whatever it is. From roofing to siding, decking and railing, and house wrap, all the glamour. Since August 2022, I've been selling to lumber yards in outside sales, and I just started with a new company, U.S. Lumber. My day-to-day is about being a chameleon and navigating different situations - having conversations with lumberyards and the salespeople there to find products for them, navigating trucks and getting material to the lumber yards, processing orders, and handling the owners at the lumber yards and the salespeople. This is a relationship business. People have to trust you. You have to be honest, have integrity, and be accountable. You have to have hard conversations - the ones you don't want to have, you have to have. And the hard ones make people understand you better. One of my proudest achievements was growing a territory from $3 million to nearly $12 million in 2 years, about 75-77% growth.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to relationships. This is a relationship business. People have to trust you. You have to be honest, and have integrity, and be accountable. You have to have hard conversations - the ones that you don't want to have, you have to have. And the hard ones make the people understand you better. That's really what it comes down to for me.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is: This is building materials, it's not brain surgery. Make it fun. Don't stress, but find the rainbow on the hard days. But it's not brain surgery. That advice has really helped me keep perspective and not take things too seriously.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell young women to always be positive. Follow your dreams. And don't ever let anyone stand in your way from being amazing and crushing the things that you do well. I have a daughter at home, and she looks at me sometimes and she's like, I can't believe you had that conversation. But you have to. You have to stand up for what's right. I always encourage women: Don't be afraid to jump out and try something new. Don't be afraid because it's building materials. Don't be afraid because it's a male-dominated industry. It's amazing. It's amazing.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty and accountability are absolutely crucial to me, both professionally and at home. Professionally, you have to be accountable, you have to be honest, you have to have integrity. And those same values carry over into my personal life. Those things are absolutely crucial to me in everything I do.
