Her Story

About Elizabeth

I've been in the field for about 35 years. I started with therapeutic recreation and working with children in mental health, which opened pathways to adults with mental health, homelessness, and substance abuse. Currently, I'm the Director of Clinical Services at an inpatient facility for adults with co-occurring substance abuse and mental health issues. I've been in the clinical director role since 2018, with 5 years in substance abuse at methadone clinics and 3 years in outpatient services. I'm most proud of creating innovative programming like music through emotional expression, a Christian faith-based track, and horticulture groups to better engage clients and improve outcomes.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't limit yourself to one niche because it can take time to find where your true passion lies. I thought my niche was working with kids and families for years, but I discovered my real passion in drug and alcohol treatment after resisting it initially. Follow your heart and don't be afraid to explore different areas until you find where you truly excel.
