About Elizabeth
Elizabeth Mabrey founded Storming Robots in 2005 and serves as its Director, overseeing all aspects of the organization including curriculum development. Previously a software developer, she was motivated to start the center after experiencing challenges with the public school system while raising her two children. She initially explored curriculum from Carnegie Mellon University's Robotic Academy but quickly developed her own in-depth programs that integrate computer science and robotics to foster computational thinking and engineering skills. The center offers structured after-school and weekend programs for students in grades five through twelve, with branching tracks in computer science and computer engineering at the high school level. Mabrey's approach prioritizes building fundamental critical thinking processes over tool usage, enabling students to advance at their own pace and often surpass advanced placement levels. She continues to refine the curriculum and aspires to expand the model through investment and consulting to reach more students.
