Her Interview

Ten minutes with Elizabeth

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think for me it's knowing and remembering where I came from and how it started for me. I was born poor and grew up poor but I don't want to remain poor. I want to be successful so that I can be of help to other people as well. If we never try to push ourselves or try to grow then not only does it not help us but we can also not help other people.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The years will still pass whether we accomplish things or not. As women we often face discouragement about marriage and kids making education useless but the time passes anyway so we might as well pursue our goals and education because at least we will have accomplished something by then.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Integrity is very important and remain true to yourselves. Even in corporate settings people try to fake it to appeal to hiring managers but if you're not being true to yourself that will eventually come out and could cause more harm down the line.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Challenges include being the odd one out as an Asian American with a different cultural background making it harder to connect immediately with teams. Opportunities include the field being more female-dominated which gives women better chances to climb the ladder and explore more.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

My faith is very important to me. It has kept me grounded over the years especially when things get difficult. Second is my family. I want to do everything I can to help them both financially and otherwise as I grow in my field and education.
