Her Story
About Ella
I learned to read and write early because my uncle taught me when I was 3 and 4 years old, which sparked my lifelong interest in books and writing. In 1991, I started Purpose Magazine to help others come into their realization of why they are here and what they should be doing as it relates to their assignment and the people they should help. After dealing with my mother's illness for 10 years, I relaunched the magazine in 2024 with some mentees. My main area of expertise is imparting direction on vision and purpose to both young and old. I get excited about people's vision and what they see for themselves as the good Lord has given to them. I've helped develop individuals, groups, churches, and businesses in their vision for their entities. Throughout my career, I've covered many celebrities and brought them to our annual events. I consider myself a mature, seasoned person who has gone a lot of places and done a lot of things. One of the most important things for me has been my faith in God, and imparting that kind of faith onto others, not in a forceful way, but just in a way of setting an example. What I do is rooted and grounded in faith, because without faith, I wouldn't have been able to do it anyway.

Ten minutes with Ella
01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received was from Bill Moss, a man who was on the school board here and used to be in radio. I interviewed him, and he told me, 'Ella, there's a lot to do in this world, but look around and see what is not being done. If you find a place where you can fit there, that would be the best place to do something. Not to try to go with the crowd to do what they're doing, but to find something that has not been done, where there's a need that's not being met, where there's something that is going lacking, and do that.' Of course, it should be of your interest, but he said to do that - to find the unmet needs rather than following the crowd.
02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The most important values to me are faith in God, which is the foundation of everything I do, and helping people discover their purpose and avoid the traps that hold them back. I'm against oppression and anything that's going to hold people back from who they really are. It's really important to me to impart vision and purpose to young people because so many people don't ever get there before they leave this earth. I care deeply about reaching people who are born into poverty and helping them find a way out, providing internships and guidance so they don't fall into the traps that are there for them. I try to reach the ones that I can. As I've matured, I've realized that what really matters are the small things - family, the people you care for, and the beauty you can put around you. It's not about seeking awards or the spotlight anymore; it's about making a difference in people's lives and being part of a platform that presents women who care about other people and want to impact their lives.
