Her Story

About Elle

Elle Moore is a professional in the electrical construction industry with 5 to 6 years of experience. She began her career in healthcare, performing office management and clerical duties including filing and data entry. After starting in electrical construction as a temporary administrator covering for a colleague on a six-week leave, she was hired permanently and developed a passion for the work. Currently, she is training in estimating, which involves examining drawings to calculate job costs, counting materials like fixtures and receptacles, and processing change orders. Elle holds an associate's degree in art and design, a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential, and a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. She values honesty, integrity, and respect, particularly in the male-dominated construction field, and advises others to pursue opportunities without limiting themselves.

Ten minutes with Elle

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is to always go for what you believe in and never limit yourself. Don't think just because you don't know it, it's not something that you can learn or grow into. In this field, I've learned to always max out what I think I can do. If I think I can do something, go bigger.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Just go for it, because you're gonna look back and you might regret not making a decision sooner. If it's something that you're contemplating, just do it. Don't overthink it, don't second-guess it. Just literally go for it, because it might turn into something bigger than you expected. Or you might find out you don't even like it and you want to do something else.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is being in a male-dominated field. It's kind of intimidating if you are not very headstrong. On the flip side, the opportunities are huge because there's so much room for growth and so much learning opportunities. You don't know where tomorrow may lead you, and you can learn something today that may take you off into something else in the business of construction.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty, integrity, and respect are most important to me. Respect is something that I'm really big on, especially in this male-dominated industry where they might look at you like you're a woman who may be sensitive or fragile. If you give me respect, I'll give you that in return.
