Elvira Ahmetaj is an experienced entrepreneur and business leader with over 25 years of experience in the building maintenance and janitorial industry. As CEO of JMS Building Maintenance Solutions, Inc., she oversees operations, administration, finance, sales, marketing, customer service, and employee training. She has built the company from the ground up, serving corporate, healthcare, educational, residential, and commercial clients. She also holds an AA in Mental Health & Human Resources from Kingsborough Community College and is a certified Women’s Business Enterprise.

01What do you attribute your success to?
My success has been driven by my unwavering dedication to providing quality service, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to building trust with my clients. I also believe that being very OCD in cleaning and my attention to detail and focus on customer satisfaction have played a significant role.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
It’s important to be persistent and never stop learning. Also, I was advised to network genuinely and build strong relationships—those connections can open doors and provide support when you need it most. This advice has helped me stay focused, resilient, and confident on my journey as a business owner.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Never never underestimate your value. Focus on delivering quality work, building strong relationships with your clients, and maintaining integrity in everything you do. It's also important to stay organized and seek opportunities to learn and grow. Stay persistent.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in the cleaning industry right now is maintaining a high standard of service while managing rising costs and labor shortages. Finding good people is a challenge.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
In both my work and personal life, I believe in doing honest work, treating clients and team members with respect, and always striving to deliver my best. Compassion and balance are also key. These values guide my decisions and help me build trust and a positive reputation in both my business and personal relationships.
