About Elyssa
My passion for exercise physiology stems from a love for moving our bodies and wanting to understand what's happening on a molecular and physiological level inside our bodies. Everyone says to work out more and eat healthier, but I wanted to learn the 'why' behind those recommendations. I've been in the field for about 7 years, starting from my undergrad. Currently, I'm a doctoral student at the University of Northern Colorado, where I lead my own research as part of a collective team of doctoral students in our lab. My research focuses specifically on female athletes, examining how perception and one's own experiences can impact sport performance and other types of performance. For my master's degree, I researched anxiety symptoms and how CBD supplementation affects anxiety and overall performance. We found that acute supplementation of 300 milligrams of CBD improved 2-mile running time trial times and reduced anxiety symptoms. I've published scientific articles on this work and have presented my research at the American College of Sports Medicine.
