Her Story

About Emily

I'm a multidisciplinary creative based in Pittsburgh, working as a muralist with spray paint over the last couple years. I saw this as an opportunity to really just go bigger with what I do, with the messages that I'm trying to convey, with my creativity. I have a background in digital marketing, and I find that murals and digital marketing pair quite nicely together because the digital marketing is the storytelling of it. Ultimately, what I try to do is uplift like-minded businesses, or small businesses, or organizations, or people with the skills and services that I have. I get murals through various ways - sometimes people reach out to me via social media or my website contact form, other times I'm reaching out to business owners, or there's request for proposals that towns and cities and businesses put out when they're looking for public art. One of my favorite things about what I get to do is that I'm outdoors a lot of the time. I've traveled to Colorado, Costa Rica, Florida, and other states to create murals, and I'd like to do that more. Working with spray paint makes it a lot faster once you know what you're doing, and it's so much fun to work big.

Ten minutes with Emily

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think that it's just something that I have enjoyed my entire life. When I'm creating, when I'm making art, I feel so at peace - it's like this flow state. When I was younger, I was like, it would be so great to be able to do this all the time. I'm doing a lot of it now, and it is just wonderful, because I think that just chasing that peacefulness creates a peaceful existence. I also feel really strongly that making a positive impact on the world around me using my creativity is what I'm supposed to do. I think that just following that intuition has led me here, and I hope that it continues to lead me to other incredible places.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would just say keep going, and trust your intuition. Believe that the things that you like, you like for a reason. There's a million different ways in which we can all fulfill our purpose, and just by following your intuition, you kind of are following those breadcrumbs on how to do that.
