Her Story

About Emily

Emily Davis is a Human Resources Business Partner with seven years of experience in human resources. She began her career working in office administration at a charter school and as a teacher at a daycare before transitioning to manufacturing, where she started in HR right before the COVID-19 pandemic. In that essential role supporting pharmaceutical insert production, she managed employee safety and operations during a challenging time, which solidified her passion for the field. Currently, she serves as the HR support for managers across 15 states and counting for a company with between 2,000 and 3,000 employees, managing employee relations investigations, professional development, training, performance issues, and other operational matters. Emily earned her SHRM Certification from the Society of Human Resources Management a couple of years ago, a personal milestone achieved through experience and independent study rather than formal HR education. Outside of work, she is the president of a local chapter of the Order of Hibernians, an organization of Irish-American women focused on friendship, unity, and Christian charity, where she leads efforts such as food drives for the local food bank and contributions to kitchen updates for a veterans' meal program in the Huntington, Long Island area.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

To trust yourself, especially in an industry that can feel so black and white. Remember that dealing with real-world issues you're going to see it all, so trust yourself, ask questions. Half of my learning is from experiencing things and questioning them. Not being afraid to ask why we do something or why something has become best practice. Open communication and not being afraid to speak up. Just saying yes to opportunity and asking, learning and soaking up all that experience is so important.
