Her Interview

Ten minutes with Emily

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my 12-year career in finance, which has given me diverse experience across cybersecurity, renewable energy, international finance, and private equity. My current consulting work with WHOOP, focused on international expansion and Medicare initiatives, continues to challenge me to align operations, finance, and executive strategy across global markets.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I received was to stay open to learning and allow the right mentors to guide my growth. Professor Scott Davis and Premalata Sundaram were instrumental in helping me transition from political science into accounting and encouraging me to pursue opportunities that aligned with my strengths and interests.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the industry is to work hard, trust yourself, and never underestimate what you bring to the table. There is enough room for all of us to succeed, and another woman’s success never diminishes your own. Uplift one another, celebrate each other’s wins, and create opportunities for the women coming alongside and behind you. Use your voice, lead with confidence and kindness, and never be afraid to take up space. We all have a seat at the table.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

As I have only been in my current role for a few months, I am still learning about the field’s biggest challenges and opportunities. I see this early stage as an exciting opportunity to learn, contribute, and identify ways to create meaningful impact.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are integrity, meaningful impact, and service. I value opportunities to share my story, take on challenges, and use my finance and accounting expertise to make a difference. Whether leading complex business initiatives or serving as a nonprofit treasurer in my community, I strive to be strategic, results-oriented, and willing to take on responsibilities that create lasting value.
