Her Story

About Emily

Emily Freymann is the Owner and Lead Photographer of Freymann Photography & Design in East Moline, Illinois, where she combines more than a decade of photography experience with expertise in web design, digital branding, and visual storytelling. She founded her studio in July 2024 to help individuals and businesses strengthen their brands through images, custom websites, and intentional digital experiences. Her work encompasses portrait, event, product, and editorial photography, as well as user-centered web design, branding, and digital marketing. Before launching her creative business, Emily spent eight years in banking, developing strong client-service, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills that continue to shape her professional approach. She later pursued web development and digital design at Black Hawk College, where she graduated as valedictorian in 2023 and earned a Web Developer certification. Her experience as a Student Life Coordinator Assistant and UX/UI Designer and Developer intern further strengthened her understanding of event planning, audience engagement, user experience, and digital communication. Emily’s photography and design work has since been featured in multiple print and digital publications, and she has collaborated with organizations and businesses including Von Maur and the Walton Family Foundation. Driven by creativity, community, and meaningful storytelling, Emily is passionate about creating authentic visuals that help clients connect with their audiences. One of her most meaningful projects has been a farmers’ mental health calendar, which used photography to share farmers’ stories and raise nearly $7,000 for a meaningful cause. She is also committed to supporting her local community through volunteer involvement and creative partnerships. Outside of her professional work, Emily enjoys spending time with her husband, traveling, visiting farmers’ markets, gardening, hiking, practicing yoga, and exploring the outdoors. She is also an enthusiastic cat owner who enjoys taking her cats on stroller walks.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Emily

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the strong foundation I developed growing up along with the stability of having a supportive partner by my side. My husband and I have grown together for nearly two decades, always communicating, supporting each other, and encouraging one another to pursue our career goals.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The most valuable career support I’ve received came from my former boss, Jana, who has been an incredible source of encouragement, especially while I’ve navigated a challenging personal health journey. Her understanding, guidance, and unwavering support have helped me grow both personally and professionally and have been a meaningful part of my success.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I encourage young women entering this male-dominated industry to stand up for themselves, stay confident in their work, and remain true to their values. Not everyone will appreciate your work, but there are always mentors and supportive people who can help guide you, encourage your growth, and help you reach your goals.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge I’ve faced has been managing my health after being diagnosed with Stage 3 Endometriosis in 2023, following many years without a diagnosis.

Despite undergoing major treatment and continuing to seek specialized care, I remain committed to navigating these challenges while continuing to pursue my professional goals.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value openness, collaboration, and continuous improvement in both my work and personal life. I welcome constructive feedback because it helps me better understand others’ needs and improve my work. I’m also open to new ideas and believe in supporting and giving back to my community.
