Her Story

About Emily

I've held two roles in the healthcare industry specifically. My current and most recent role, I began in October of 2025 as in-house counsel at a pharmacy benefit manager called Prime, where I focus on PBM operations and litigation. I've been a lawyer pretty much my entire career, and my role is really to defend the company against outside litigation and regulatory enforcement actions. Prior to that, I also worked in-house at a biopharmaceutical company from October 2021 to July 2022. My goal has always been to be in-house at a healthcare company, and I'm so excited to have landed at Prime in an in-house litigation role at a company whose mission I really believe in. I think just continuing to advance through different roles in different companies has been my most notable professional achievement. On any given day, I could be handling a dispute that hasn't yet turned into litigation, handling outside litigation in conjunction with our outside counsel (either affirmative or defensive litigation), or responding to state or federal government inquiries or subpoenas. It's pretty varied - you never know what the day's gonna bring you. Right now, there's a lot of scrutiny and focus on the healthcare industry, so a large part of my job is just educating others about how our company works and how we work within the industry to show our value in the healthcare supply chain.

Ten minutes with Emily

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think I have an incredibly supportive family, network, and community. I have worked really hard throughout my career and maintained friendships and connections with people that I have worked with throughout my time as a lawyer, and I think those relationships and connections are so valuable. When you work hard and prove yourself as competent in any field, really, showing that time and time again, people are really willing to go to bat for you. Keeping in touch with people who you might work with again down the road is really beneficial.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I think the best career advice I've received is always to make sure to see the forest through the trees, and not always be so singularly focused on the minutiae, but be making sure at all times you're seeing the bigger picture for the company, or your role, or whatever aspect you're dealing with at that time. To not be really focused on the nitty-gritty, and really take a step back, and always be looking at the larger picture.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say don't be afraid to speak up for yourself and what you want and what you're interested in. In the legal profession, you can sort of get taken down a path that isn't necessarily where you want to wind up, so I think it's really important early on to think about what your ultimate goals and career ideals are, and where you want to be in 5 years, 10 years, and make sure that you are taking the steps that you need to be in that place in 5 years or 10 years, and not just blindly following a path that might be set out for you by someone else.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I think right now, there's just a lot of scrutiny and focus on the healthcare industry, so I think there's just a lot of questions and inquiries from all angles. A large part of my job is just educating others in terms of how our company works and how we work within the industry to show our value in the healthcare supply chain. With all this increased scrutiny and focus, I'm just helping people see how important and beneficial we are in the healthcare supply chain.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I think the values that are incredibly important to me are honesty, open communication, a good attitude, and a willingness to collaborate and work well together with others.
