About EMILY
Emily Huber is a fire protection professional who joined Cogswell Sprinkler Company in 1999 after graduating with a business administration degree. She started in a receptionist role and progressed through positions in accounts payable and receiving, purchasing, and inspection and testing. Drawn to the design work, she received specialized training from the company and now handles sprinkler system design using AutoCAD, Navisworks and Revit while following NFPA codes, the Massachusetts State Building Code and the International Building Code. Huber attributes her success to supportive teammates at Cogswell and a persistent work ethic developed from starting work at a young age. She advises young women entering the field to speak up and question ideas, noting that others likely share the same thoughts.

01What do you attribute your success to?
Good teammates and support from the whole Cogswell family and team. Persistence that must come from nature, as I've been working since I was young and never stopped.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't be afraid to speak up and question. If you're thinking it, there's probably 3 or 4 other people thinking the same thing. Get it out and talk it out.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Both challenges and tons of opportunities. The industry is constantly changing, not the same as in 1999 when started on drafting boards, now using AutoCAD, Navis Works, Revit and following NFPA codes, Massachusetts State Building Code, International Building Code.
