Her Story

About Emily

Emily Kicklighter is a health and wellness educator whose practice integrates multiple modalities to support individuals facing health crises. She earned an MFA in theater and later a master's in teaching, and she has completed 500 hours of yoga teacher training. Her certifications include Livestrong coach, diabetes prevention coach, Schwinn cycling instructor, water and aerobics instructor, Tai Chi instructor, Radical Remission Multimodal Intervention Facilitator, and Certified Metabolic Terrain Advocate. Emily runs The Whole Elephant Coaching, where she emphasizes first principles thinking, integrity, cooperation, and integration of conventional and complementary approaches. She attributes her professional success to the clients who apply her guidance to achieve meaningful results in their lives and to the pioneering figures in integrated healthcare who focus on individual biology and lifestyle, often described as the N of 1 approach. Emily advises women entering the field to prioritize their own practices first, likening it to putting on their own oxygen mask before assisting others.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Emily

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the clients that I work with who take what I have to offer and achieve things in their own lives, which reflects back on me. I also stand on the shoulders of great folks in integrated healthcare who look at each individual biology and lifestyle, the N of 1.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Focusing on embodying who you want to become, the feelings, the emotional state, and the attitude of someone who's already achieved the things that you want to achieve. It flips you into gratitude in the present moment and reflects out into the world attracting opportunities.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Put your own oxygen mask on first. Start inside and cultivate your own practices first before focusing outward on marketing and PR, otherwise your peace of mind can be disturbed which impacts your outreach.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The opportunity is people questioning the norm that oncologists say diet doesn't matter and cancer is a mystery. The challenge is polarized binary thinking between conventional and alternative medicine, and clients wanting a single pill or cure rather than understanding the mind-body-spirit systemic approach.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity, first principles thinking where we break things down to fact and truth then integrate, cooperation, and blending systems together.
