Her Story

About Emily

Emily Payamps serves as a post-secondary success coach and Immigrant Ambassador at the high school she once attended in New York. With two years of experience in the counseling field, she assists seniors and juniors in developing plans after high school, whether for college, military, or family work, and acts as a key resource for immigrant students and their families. Passionate about bridging the gap between available support and student potential, she prioritizes mental health despite societal stigmas and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling to enhance her ability to provide individualized care. Emily hosts community events and workshops, including Knowing Your Rights sessions, and values empathy, compassion, and being open-minded in her approach. She advises being innovative, showing authentic care, and for young women, to take up space and make themselves heard.

Ten minutes with Emily

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Always be innovative and think on the fly to support each student individually. Truly show care because kids can tell when you don't. Show up authentic to make the connection.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Take up space. Always feel like you are important enough to be talking, to be heard, for your problems to be important. Make yourself known in a room because people will try to dim that light or put you down as a woman.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Empathy, compassion, and being open-minded. Individualized support rather than generic help. Prioritizing mental health despite stigmas.
