Shoemaker Legal Solutions LLC

Emily Shoemaker, Esq. is the founder and principal attorney at Shoemaker Legal Solutions LLC, where she provides compassionate, client-focused legal services. Her career in law is grounded in a deep commitment to advocacy, empathy, and ensuring access to justice for all. Prior to founding her firm, Emily gained extensive experience as an Assistant Public Defender, Associate Attorney, and Staff Attorney, honing her skills in civil litigation, legal research, and courtroom advocacy while supporting individuals navigating complex legal challenges. Emily’s journey to the law was shaped by both personal and professional experiences. Initially pursuing a career in law enforcement, a serious injury redirected her path and inspired her to attend Northern Kentucky University—Salmon P. Chase College of Law. Witnessing her single mother navigate an often inaccessible legal system instilled in her a desire to help level the playing field for those without resources or representation. This combination of lived experience and professional expertise informs her approach to client advocacy and problem-solving. Beyond her legal practice, Emily is deeply committed to community service and civic engagement. She actively volunteers with organizations focused on domestic violence, civil rights, mental health, and economic empowerment, and serves on the OVP Recovery Center Advisory Council. A member of the Missouri Bar Association, St. Louis Women’s Lawyers Association, and Boone County Bar Association, Emily continues to build a career that reflects her values of resilience, service, and integrity, making a meaningful difference in both her clients’ lives and her community.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received has come from both mentors and life experience. David Singleton, through his work at the Ohio Justice and Policy Center, profoundly shaped my understanding of justice, policy, and the responsibility lawyers have to create meaningful, lasting change. Above all, my greatest influence has been my mother, Sherry Sias. As a single mom, she modeled incredible strength, perseverance, and grace in the face of adversity. Watching her navigate challenges instilled in me a strong work ethic and a deep desire to give back—not just to her, but to the broader community as well. Her example continues to guide how I approach my career and my commitment to service.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is simple: don’t give up, and don’t let challenges make you give in. Growth often comes in the moments that test us the most. I experienced profound loss when I lost my grandfather, father, and my brother within just four months of each other—a time that made it incredibly difficult to stay focused. Yet even in those moments, I remained committed to being a voice for the voiceless and ensuring equal access to justice. When I opened my own law firm, I was still navigating self-esteem struggles, but I pushed forward. The lesson I want to share is this: you are stronger than you realize, and resilience is built by facing life’s challenges head-on. Embrace them—they will shape who you become.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide me most in both my work and personal life are purpose, balance, and dedication to making a meaningful impact. Today, my greatest joy and grounding force is my son, Ezekiel. At just 16 months old, he has reshaped my understanding of purpose and balance, reminding me daily of what truly matters. Motherhood has deepened my perspective, sharpened my priorities, and reinforced why the work I do—both for my clients and for the broader community—matters. It’s a constant reminder that the choices we make and the values we uphold have lasting influence beyond ourselves. I would also not be where I am at today if it was not for my husband and soulmate, Andrew.
