Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I couldn't do anything without my husband. He's my biggest supporter. I have three kids, and they're my rock. I'm doing all of this so I can support them, so they can have a great life. So, my family, absolutely. But I've also had really great professional connections that I developed in Alaska, high-level connections. I worked closely with the Colonel for the Alaska State Troopers and various command staff, and they're all so supportive, and they helped me grow. They encouraged me to move up, find something new, and now I'm at Raytheon, which is a really cool experience that I'm super grateful for.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Make connections, go for it. If you see an opportunity that you think is a good fit for you, or would make a good contribution to your family, just go for it. I put in for a lot of different opportunities within the law enforcement field that I saw that came up, and some of them never panned out, but it's always worth a shot.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

We have a place in it, too. It's not just for men. There's a lot of men in law enforcement as well as missiles and defense, but they can't do what they do without a woman's touch. We have a place there, and we are valuable in male dominated fields.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I always kind of struggled in Alaska with wondering when I was ready to move on to promote or move into another position because I was so happy and content working in the drug unit. I really didn't want to leave that position, so I kind of was forced out of that by moving out of state and looking into other fields. Obviously, I left law enforcement and moved into missiles and defense. That was a big change. So that was challenging for me to kind of get out of that mindset, like, I need to stay comfortable where I am and look for greener pastures.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I really think a work-life balance is very important, especially now that my husband's deployed. I'm the only parent at home right now, so having a good work-life balance is really important to me, making sure my schedule is appropriate so I can both contribute to the success of my company and the success of my family. I also really value strong leadership and good coworkers and peers that are willing to help and pitch in.
