Her Story
About Emma
Emma Reed has spent 12 years in the construction and flooring industry, with 10 of those years based in New York City and the remaining two in Virginia. Most recently serving as Senior Project Executive at GP Flooring, Reed oversaw vendor management, maintained active pipelines through competitive bidding with general contractors and end users, and handled back-end financials to mitigate contract risks and prevent profit erosion. In nearly four years at the company she generated over $14 million in sales. Her path into the field began after working at an architecture firm, when she was recruited into flooring and discovered a passion for the strategic challenges of winning bids, relationship building, and seeing her work realized in major buildings. Reed has built a strong professional network across the industry and notes that her experience has helped her develop a more assertive communication style. She aspires to own or hold equity in a flooring company, expand her book of business as a mill representative, or transition into a project management role on the client side with major organizations.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Try not to be intimidated. Make sure your voice projects, speak loudly and clearly, and match the tone that you're given. Lots of times men in this industry are very straightforward and to the point. Throughout my decade in flooring it's taught me to be more assertive and more direct.
