Her Story

About Emma

Emma Robbins serves as a Shelter Advocate at NeighborImpact, a nonprofit organization supporting individuals and families throughout Central Oregon. In her role at a homeless shelter, she assists guests with securing stable housing and accessing essential resources, including obtaining vital documents such as birth certificates. Her work is grounded in a strong commitment to social justice, advocacy, and helping individuals overcome barriers to stability and independence.

Robbins’ dedication to this field is deeply influenced by personal experiences and the challenges she witnessed growing up, including seeing her parents navigate homelessness. These experiences inspired her to shift her academic and professional direction from physical therapy toward social work and community advocacy. While attending Oregon State University-Cascades, she served as a Resident Assistant and Student Career Assistant, where she developed valuable leadership, communication, mentoring, and interpersonal skills. She also credits a former supervisor and mentor for providing meaningful guidance and encouragement during her college years.

Robbins attributes her success to the challenges she experienced growing up, the determination and resilience those experiences instilled in her, and the support of the people who invested in her journey. Scholarships, financial aid, educators, classmates, peers, mentors, and coworkers all played an important role in helping her achieve her goals. Looking ahead, she is committed to advancing her education by pursuing a master’s degree in social work and hopes to progress into positions at the county, state, or federal level, where she can expand her impact while continuing to advocate for and support individuals facing hardships similar to those she has witnessed firsthand.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the hard things I experienced watching my parents and others go through homelessness. Those challenges gave me the determination and passion to pursue this work helping people in similar situations. I'm also grateful for all the help I received along the way, including scholarships, financial aid, and support from teachers, classmates, peers, and coworkers.
