Her Story

About Erica

Erica Abergel is a yoga teacher and author based in Puerto Rico. After spending 31 years in finance, where she rose to the role of senior investigator at a global bank and drew on her yoga practice to practice mindful leadership while liaising with regulators and the FBI, she negotiated her exit from corporate life to focus full-time on wellness. She simultaneously built a yoga and wellness career over 25 years, opening one of the first Latina-owned yoga studios in New York in 2012 after becoming a 9-11 survivor, and she has since certified over 90 teachers at the 200-hour level through her Nueva Alma brand while authoring multiple books. Abergel holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and certifications as a holistic health coach, juice therapist, clinical aromatherapist, and 500-hour experienced yoga teacher, and she serves as a Yoga Alliance certified continuing education provider. She is affiliated with Yoga Alliance and mentors board members for the Alpha Puerto Rico chapter. Her work now centers on helping women recover from burnout rooted in self-abandonment by encouraging authentic living, healthier boundaries, and a return to inner wisdom, informed by her own experiences as a Latina professional navigating corporate, cultural, and wellness worlds. She remains committed to accessibility through bilingual offerings, full scholarships in trainings, and initiatives like yoga for youth in juvenile systems and the Pay It Forward movement.
