Her Story
About Erica
Erica Hinrichs has spent 15 years on and off in the fitness industry, drawn to it through her lifelong involvement in sports and her initial studies in musical theater, where she discovered opportunities in group fitness instruction. She currently splits her time between two roles: teaching fitness classes on Mondays and Fridays, and working as a personal trainer Tuesday through Thursday at a hospital-affiliated facility. There, she specializes in post-rehabilitation support, leading classes for post-stroke and post-cardiac rehab clients and helping individuals transition back to the gym after completing physical or occupational therapy. Her day typically involves morning and evening clients, a lunchtime class, planning and programming, and afternoon work coordinating volunteers as a board member for an annual 5K race that helps feed families in need in her area. Erica holds certifications in personal training, aquatic personal training, and exercise therapy, along with prior certifications in kickboxing and cycling. She previously worked as a physical therapy tech, an experience that has enhanced her current work. She attributes her success to a strong family support system, her driven and results-oriented nature, and her natural curiosity about how different choices shape her path.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Erica
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to having a strong family support system and being a very driven, results-based person. I'm also very curious, always wondering how different choices will impact my life.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've received is don't give up. Either it'll get better where you are, or sometimes you need to make a switch to another company or direction, but just keep trying to find something that fits.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
In the beginning it will be tough because you're trying to figure out your style or what you want to specialize in, and people can be very opinionated, but you just have to keep going and find what works best for you. Even if you start on a smaller scale, you can slowly build up to doing it full-time.
