Her Story

About Erica

Erica Lagler-Ferrez is a driven and compassionate biomedical and pharmaceutical professional with over two decades of experience spanning pharmaceutical sales, specialty diagnostics, immunology, and biomedical research. Armed with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from UC San Diego, she has built a distinguished career working across gastroenterology, dermatology, and rheumatology — most recently serving as an Immunology Specialist at Celltrion Inc., where she focuses on biologics and subcutaneous injection therapies. Her trajectory has been shaped by an unwavering commitment to patient advocacy, scientific excellence, and the kind of relationship-driven approach that has earned her recognition including the 2022 Chairman's Circle Award and a Top District ranking of #8 out of 65 nationwide.

What sets Erica apart is her rare ability to bridge deep scientific knowledge with genuine human connection. Throughout her career, she has partnered with gastroenterologists, rheumatologists, dermatologists, and key opinion leaders to ensure patients not only receive accurate diagnoses but also gain access to the therapies they need — even when navigating the complexities of insurance systems and specialty healthcare. Mentored early on by Brad Coelho, who recognized her natural gift for building rapport, and inspired by her father's encouragement to pursue a life in healthcare, Erica has always operated at the intersection of science, service, and purpose. She continues to deepen her academic foundation through graduate studies in Developmental Psychology at Walden University, further enriching her understanding of people and the relationships she builds.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Erica is a dedicated community advocate whose generosity extends well outside the walls of her career. She actively supports the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation and volunteers as a coach for her daughter's softball teams — a role through which she channels her passion for empowering young women to develop confidence, resilience, and a belief in their own potential. These same values inform the advice she shares with women entering the pharmaceutical and biomedical space: remain open to unexpected opportunities, advocate fearlessly for what you know to be right, and never allow workplace challenges to diminish your sense of worth. For Erica, success has always been about more than results — it is about the lasting impact she leaves on the patients she serves, the professionals she mentors, and the community she uplifts.

Ten minutes with Erica

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success is rooted in the strength of my family foundation, which has been my anchor throughout my career. Equally important has been my commitment to building and nurturing meaningful professional relationships. I am especially grateful to my mentor, Brad Coelho, who saw in me a natural ability to connect with people and encouraged me to pursue a path in sales — helping me recognize strengths I hadn't fully seen in myself. My father also played a pivotal role by inspiring my entry into the healthcare field, and his guidance set the foundation for the career I have built.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The most impactful advice I received came from two people who shaped my professional direction. My mentor, Brad Coelho, recognized my innate ability to connect with others and encouraged me to channel that gift into a career in sales. His guidance helped me see my own potential more clearly. My father inspired me to enter the healthcare field, initially encouraging me to explore becoming a doctor or pharmacist — a suggestion that ultimately led me to the biomedical career path I am so passionate about today.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

To the young women stepping into this industry, I would offer three pieces of advice that have guided me throughout my own journey. First, keep an open mind — your career path may take unexpected turns, and those detours often lead to the most rewarding opportunities. Second, speak up for what you know is right — advocate for yourself and your expertise with confidence, because your voice matters. And third, don't take challenges personally — workplace obstacles are not a reflection of your worth or capabilities. Rise above them and keep moving forward.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the most significant challenges I navigate in my work is helping patients access the medications they need despite complex insurance barriers. Advocating through those hurdles requires persistence, patience, and a thorough understanding of healthcare systems. Additionally, building and sustaining trusted relationships with providers across a defined territory demands consistent effort and genuine connection. I am also aware that women in this industry continue to face unique workplace challenges, which is why I am passionate about encouraging the next generation to advocate for themselves and not allow those obstacles to define their path.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

At the core of everything I do — both professionally and personally — are the values of family, integrity, and community. My family has been my greatest source of strength and motivation. I am deeply committed to empowering others, particularly young girls, through coaching softball and helping them build confidence and resilience. I believe in advocating for what is right, approaching every situation with an open mind, and cultivating authentic relationships. Giving back to the community, including my involvement with the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation, reflects my belief that true success is measured not just by professional achievements, but by the positive impact we have on the lives of others.
