Erica Reyes
Erica Reyes, M.S., serves as the Assistant Director and Health Specialist II at Texas A&M Healthy South Texas, where she leads initiatives aimed at enhancing community health and promoting health equity throughout the region. With over a decade of experience in public health, Erica has designed, implemented, and evaluated programs spanning chronic disease prevention, infectious disease response, and community health promotion. Her work bridges nonprofits, government, and academia, ensuring evidence-informed approaches translate into meaningful, lasting impact for the communities she serves. Erica’s expertise includes program development, implementation, and evaluation, as well as data analysis and research to drive strategic health interventions. She is particularly skilled in supporting Extension county agents in creating culturally relevant solutions that address the unique needs of marginalized populations. Erica leads statewide programs such as StrongPeople, Strong Bodies and Maintain No Gain, overseeing their delivery and measurable outcomes across 27 Healthy South Texas counties. Passionate about service and community engagement, Erica also brings leadership experience from her roles in Head Start, Family Service Association, and various public health initiatives. She values collaboration, integrity, and equity, and she leverages her education—including a Master’s in Health Promotion and Behavioral Science fromthe University of Texas at San Antonio and is currently pursuing a doctorate degree from UTHealth School of Public Health —to improve health outcomes for South Texans. Her dedication has been recognized with awards such as the Team Superior Service Award and the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Team Collaboration.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my parents and the many professionals and volunteers who supported me along the way. Their guidance, example, and encouragement taught me the value of hard work, dedication, and giving back to the community.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell young women entering this field to always maintain a student mindset and be willing to learn. Start somewhere—be open to volunteer work and exploring your passions and interests. Take advantage of opportunities to grow through job searches, programs, certifications, and free courses to build your skills and experience.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Faith, integrity, humbleness, and grit are the values I hold most important in both my work and personal life. I strive to act ethically, remain grounded, and persist through challenges while staying committed to my goals.
