Ericka Magee, LMSW-C, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Clinical Supervisor, and founder of Urbanistic Therapy LLC, a virtual private practice dedicated to trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and whole-person care. Based in the Detroit Metropolitan Area, Ericka brings over eight years of experience across community mental health, private practice, crisis work, youth services, and high-acuity behavioral health. She is passionate about improving access to high-quality mental healthcare by integrating clinical expertise with community leadership and innovative program development.

As a clinical supervisor and mentor, Ericka supports clinicians through reflective supervision, structured professional development, and guidance on ethical, evidence-based practice. Her work spans multiple organizations, including Journey to Clarity Counseling, Transcending Hope Institute, Lifestance Health, and Team Wellness Center, where she has overseen treatment planning, risk management, and culturally informed care for diverse populations. She emphasizes generational healing and whole-person wellness, ensuring that therapy is not only effective but also equitable and accessible.

Ericka holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Central Michigan University and a Master of Social Work from Wayne State University. Beyond her clinical practice, she is deeply committed to community engagement, mentorship, and mental health advocacy. Through Urbanistic Therapy, she develops educational resources, workshops, and digital content to reduce stigma, expand access to care, and foster healing across the Detroit community and beyond.

The best career advice I’ve ever received is that it’s always better to try than not to. I’ve learned to stay open to new opportunities, share my opinions confidently, and continuously build meaningful connections through networking. These principles have guided my growth and helped me seize opportunities I might have otherwise overlooked.

My advice to young women entering this industry is to be courageous and never let obstacles stop you from achieving your goals. Keep pushing forward, even when challenges arise. I also encourage seeking mentorship—find someone who can answer your deeper questions and actively support your professional growth. Having a trusted mentor can make a significant difference in navigating your career path successfully.

One of the biggest opportunities in my field right now is improving access to high-quality mental healthcare. I believe this can be achieved by combining clinical expertise with strong community leadership and a focus on whole-person healing, ensuring care addresses not just symptoms but the overall well-being of each individual.
