Her Story
About Erika
I was thrust into my field of motivational speaking about three and a half years ago after losing my son Charlie. My background is in hospitality and sales networking, but now I'm an event planner for Catholic Charities helping others through transitions and grief. I founded Erica Boyk, LLC for my motivation and connection business, and SkateFreeCharlie.org to give back to the community with fundraisers, scholarships, and building community entities in honor of Charlie. Every day is about working purposely to help others and living with gratitude and purpose.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Erika
01What do you attribute your success to?
My success is attributed entirely to my son Charlie, who is my driving force. I want him to be proud when I see him again, and I hope my story of pushing through tragedy helps others facing grief or personal challenges, showing that purpose can be redefined.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Don't be afraid of the unknown or roadblocks. Push yourself, and when you think you can't do it, keep going because that has tied into my journey. Don't let fear limit you, as your purpose can redefine who you are.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
In today's ever-evolving society with technology and AI, continue to be your unique self, keep pushing and raising the bar. Once you think you've mastered a skill, strive for more. Keep striving, redefining your purpose, and lean into those who want to help you.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest opportunities and challenges are pushing myself into uncomfortable situations to create new opportunities to help others and break down barriers. My goal is to have a nonprofit for Charlie, so I need to keep pushing and persevering without letting outside voices stop me.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My most important values are faith, connection to community, the importance of being there for others without expectations in return, and family.
