Erika Peterson is the owner and operator of The Gold Standard, an independent fitness facility in Channahon, Illinois, where she oversees programming and coaching for clients across all ages and experience levels. With nearly 20 years of professional experience in the fitness industry, Erika leads a performance-driven yet inclusive training environment that supports athletes, adults, and youth through individualized coaching and group-based programs. Her leadership emphasizes strength, movement quality, and lifelong fitness habits grounded in science and practical application.

Erika specializes in women’s health—particularly supporting clients through perimenopause and menopause transitions—as well as developing youth athletes with a focus on injury prevention and sports performance. She believes fitness should be joyful, empowering, and sustainable rather than punitive, and she integrates this philosophy into her coaching, workshops, and community programs. Through education and outreach, she works to increase awareness of long-term wellness strategies and help individuals build confidence in their physical and mental capabilities.

In addition to operating her gym, Erika delivers one-on-one coaching, group training, and youth programming that introduces children to fun, age-appropriate training methods. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Kinesiology and Exercise Science at Concordia University Chicago and holds a master’s degree in Sports Psychology from Capella University, where she was a National Honor Society member. By combining academic research, hands-on coaching, and community engagement, Erika continues to elevate standards in athletic development, women’s health, and sustainable fitness.

I attribute my success to my upbringing, which shaped my resilience, values, and determination. From an early age, I was encouraged to believe in my potential, work hard, and stay grounded in integrity and purpose. Those early lessons instilled a strong work ethic and a commitment to continuous growth, and they continue to guide how I lead, serve others, and pursue excellence in everything I do.

Seek out mentors and learn from those with more experience—especially female mentors—to avoid pitfalls and get support through difficult times.
