Her Story
About Erika
Erika Rountree has been in education for 17 years and has held nearly every role in the field, from secretary to teacher, coach, instructional coach, coordinator, and administrator for three years. After spending over 10 years in corporate America, she returned to school later in life, earning her bachelor's degree followed by a master's degree completed in two years and her principalship. She currently works as a virtual classroom teacher, supporting 400 high school juniors and seniors in business communications and marketing by meeting weekly and checking in with 50 to 100 students each week. She also supports foster youth part-time who have aged out of the system, helping them access community resources. As an administrator, she led a virtual program that achieved significant student growth, including accommodations for visually impaired students and life skills support. Erika is certified in Texas, Colorado, Arizona, and Washington. She co-authored a book on digital citizenship and artificial intelligence with Dr. McGee, scheduled for publication in May 2027. She supports the Carrie Bell non-profit for foster youth and participates in local church community initiatives such as backpack drives.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Just to really take their time and to build their craft and make it their own. Find your passion and don't give up. You have to find the best fit for yourself and make it your own.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Challenges include fighting against government officials and policies. Opportunities come from building your own support system within the community, as the community will support you back.
