Erika Shavers, M.A., M.S., is a dedicated educator with over 20 years of experience, currently teaching 6th grade Reading and English Language Arts at Wentworth Junior High in Calumet City School District 155. Throughout her career, she has worked with students across grade levels, including 12 years teaching second grade, and has achieved measurable improvements in student literacy and reading comprehension. Erika’s approach combines strong pedagogical expertise with a deep commitment to fostering growth and confidence in every learner she serves.

In addition to her classroom work, Erika is the founder and CEO of Blessed Transformations LLC, where she extends her impact through faith-informed mentoring, authorship, and community engagement. Her work is guided by her Christian faith and a passion for helping individuals strengthen themselves, their families, and their communities. Erika recently published her first book, reflecting her belief that personal transformation and education go hand in hand.

Erika holds a Master’s degree in Education and Teaching from Chicago State University and a Master of Arts in School Counseling from Concordia University – Chicago. She is a member of the American Counseling Association and is currently pursuing certification in biblical counseling. Erika’s professional philosophy centers on nurturing literacy, personal growth, and life-long learning, with an emphasis on mentorship that empowers both students and the broader community.

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a strong educational foundation and diverse professional experiences. I hold a degree in Business Administration from Texas A&M University and a master’s in Education and School Counseling. Alongside my academic training, my work in case management with children in foster care has been instrumental in shaping my skills, perspective, and commitment to making a meaningful impact.

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise young women entering the field of education to stay focused on what is best for the children, even when faced with challenges in leadership and responsibility. The field is constantly evolving, and if you have a passion for working with children and supporting their growth, teaching can be an incredibly rewarding career. Staying child-centered in your approach will guide you through changes and help you make a meaningful impact.

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are family and community. I believe that nurturing strong relationships and supporting those around me are essential to personal growth and meaningful impact. These values guide my decisions, interactions, and the way I approach my professional and personal responsibilities.
