About Erika

Erika Villanueva is an accomplished logistics and sales professional serving as an Account Executive in the Perishable Department at Mainfreight, where she specializes in solutions for the transportation of perishable commodities. In her role, she works directly with customers to understand their shipping requirements, develop and maintain strong business relationships, and coordinate with airline partners to secure competitive rates for high-volume shipments. Her combination of customer-focused sales expertise and extensive operational knowledge allows her to provide practical, informed solutions throughout the shipping process. Mainfreight’s U.S. sales organization emphasizes customer relationship management, sales development, and collaboration across transportation and logistics operations.

Erika began her logistics career in 2005 after transitioning from retail and discovering opportunities within the airport environment. She spent six years in operations with World Fresh, later acquired by AIT Worldwide Logistics, where she progressed from managing domestic shipments to handling international commodity movements. She subsequently served more than six years with AIT, including as Sales Operations Manager, overseeing sales and operational activities from order receipt through distribution. Her earlier experience also includes serving as Sales Logistics Manager with Turkish Airlines, where she managed a team of 25 professionals across cargo sales and logistics. This progression gave her comprehensive expertise in air freight, shipment documentation, customer requirements, carrier coordination, compliance, and supply chain operations.

Throughout her career, Erika has distinguished herself through resilience, independence, continuous learning, and a strong commitment to customer service. She takes particular pride in building lasting relationships within the logistics community and using her operational background to anticipate challenges and deliver effective solutions. She encourages professionals entering the industry to remain focused in high-demand environments, communicate consistently, learn the business every day, and take full advantage of available training and development opportunities. Beyond her logistics career, Erika is pursuing her interest in hair and makeup, allowing her to cultivate her creative side while continuing to grow professionally within the transportation and logistics industry.

Ten minutes with Erika

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to resilience, self-reliance, and a strong understanding of the industry. Since beginning my career in 2005, I have built a solid foundation through six years in operations within the perishables sector, which made my transition into an Account Executive role focused on perishables a natural progression. I take great pride in having earned my accomplishments through my own initiative, determination, and knowledge, without relying on others to guide my path. At the same time, I believe success is about continuing to grow, which is why I am pursuing my passion for hair and makeup and embracing my creative side. Most importantly, I value the relationships I have built throughout my career and the supportive community within the industry. For me, true success is not only about professional achievements, but also about continuous growth, authenticity, and the meaningful connections I have developed along the way.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the industry is to stay focused and composed, even when the environment is stressful and fast-paced. Strong communication is essential, so stay organized, follow up consistently, and make sure you remain on top of customer needs and orders. Take the time to learn something new about the business every day and be open to understanding the different roles and functions within the industry. Starting in an entry-level position, such as at the front desk, can provide valuable experience in customer service and help you build a strong foundation. Most importantly, take advantage of every training and learning opportunity available to you, because continuous growth and a willingness to learn can open the door to long-term success.
