Her Story

About Erika

I have been in healthcare for 15 years, and I am currently an Associate Vice President of Operations, a position I've held for 2 years. In my role, I oversee a region of ambulatory surgery centers, managing the complete operations of outpatient surgery including clinical, financial, and regulatory aspects. I work in partnership with physician investors to manage surgery centers together. Healthcare is in my blood - my family is all in healthcare, so I grew up with it and it's all I know. What I'm most proud of is trying to balance being a professional, being a mom, being a wife, and contributing to my community. If I can even get close to checking all those boxes, that's what makes me proud. I attribute my success to my husband, who is the only reason I've been able to truly achieve what I have at this point, along with my family and just really hard work - like writing papers for graduate school at 4am in the morning. As moms, we just find time. There isn't time, but we find it and make it happen when you've got a goal.

Ten minutes with Erika

01What do you attribute your success to?

My husband is the only reason I've been able to truly achieve what I have at this point, along with my family. And just really hard work - writing papers for graduate school at 4am in the morning. It's amazing, but as moms, we just find time. There isn't time, but we find it. We just make it happen when you've got a goal.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is that wherever you are right now is getting you ready for the next chapter, whatever that looks like. We always end up where we're supposed to be, and to not give up.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be easy on yourself. Be kind to yourself. And your children seeing you work is one of the greatest gifts you can give them.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I think the biggest opportunities in healthcare are access to healthcare. There's such a shortage of providers - nursing, physicians, primary care. We need good people in those positions, and there's just not enough of them.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Family values are huge - I'm certainly family-centered in my focus, by all means. I think kindness and how we treat other people is so important. Being kind to everyone, because we don't know what other people are going through. Meeting everybody with kindness is really my value.
