Erin Berge

Managing Editor
Discover Magazine

I went to school for journalism and international studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, which inspired my work in the editorial field. After graduating in 2014, I began working in digital communications for Milliman, a company based in Seattle. I lived in Seattle for about 3.5 years, and in that digital communications role, I learned HTML and how to write copy for websites, but I knew I wanted to work on writing and strengthening my editing skills. I eventually found an opportunity to work for a company called Remote Medical International, where I wrote health blog content, gained more experience in writing and editing, and found an interest in content strategy. I also knew I wanted to eventually get back to my journalistic roots, so when I moved back to Wisconsin around 2019, I started writing for a local newspaper called the Shepherd Express in Milwaukee. I did a lot of on-the-ground reporting and talked to community members. However, COVID negatively impacted the newspaper, and I returned to Milliman. By returning to this company, I found new opportunities to work as a digital editor, focusing on website copy, but also podcasts, newsletters, and social media copy. That's when I was approached by Discover Magazine to work as a digital editor, which was a great transition because it combined both my digital communications experience and my passion for journalism. I joined Discover in 2022 and have been with them for about 4 years now, overseeing editorial operations and digital strategy. I recently moved into a leadership role, working as a senior digital editor, and I am now the managing editor of both the print and digital magazine. I'm also the author of an award-winning children's book called "Olive Takes to the Sea," published by Orange Hat Publishing.
