Her Interview

Ten minutes with E. Tinna

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to listening to people and learning lessons over the years. Being able to take lessons learned and turn them into something positive, walking in my purpose, and staying aligned with my beliefs and values in everything I do.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I received was about building relationships. A chief of staff told me people were afraid of me because I kept my head down and minded my own business. I learned you have to reflect the values and personalities of the organization and build relationships rather than just focusing on work.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Build strong relationships. The bad advice we get is to do a good job, work hard, and keep your head down, but that works against you when it comes time for referrals and help with moves or starting a business. Especially for introverts, it's important to build outward relationships.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is the perceived flood of coaches and consultants, but the opportunity is using your unique experience to stand out. My 20 years in politics and C-level positions make me a unicorn who can help clients faster because I've been through complex environments.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity, trust, and honesty are most important. These go hand in hand. It's hard when people walk in compromise or try to protect feelings instead of being clear, because in coaching and consulting you can only work with truth.
