Her Story
About Evalyn
Evalyn Jones is the Patient Access Manager at Montefiore Health System in Middletown, New York, where she oversees registration and insurance operations for a department that runs around the clock. Her career in healthcare began in 2013 as a switchboard operator before she moved into patient access as a registrar handling authorizations, eventually rising to supervisor in June 2022 and stepping into her current management role in February 2026. Though she once envisioned a future on the Supreme Court, Evalyn found her true calling in healthcare leadership after discovering a passion for guiding and developing her team.
Evalyn's academic path reflects the same determination that defines her career. After leaving John Jay College early to focus on work, she later found renewed direction through Berkeley College, where an admissions counselor helped her map out a clear course of study, ultimately earning her Bachelor of Science degree. She is now furthering her expertise by pursuing a Master's in Healthcare Management at Long Island University. Her commitment to growth extends beyond the classroom: she completed Montefiore's "Leading Through Relationships" leadership development program in November 2025, is a member of the National Honor Society, and serves on the Employee Recognition Committee, where she helps celebrate the achievements of her colleagues.
At the heart of Evalyn's leadership style are the values of balance, respect, and hard work, principles she attributes largely to her parents' example and her director Robin's mentorship. She is driven by her children, whom she hopes to show that ambition has no ceiling, and she encourages other women entering the healthcare field to stay true to themselves and treat setbacks as stepping stones toward growth. Looking ahead, Evalyn hopes to continue advancing beyond her current role, with her sights set on reaching an AVP-level position in the years to come.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Evalyn
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my children, who motivate me every day to keep striving so they can see that the sky is the limit. I also credit my former director, Robin, who consistently pushed me to return to school and to pursue leadership opportunities, and my parents, whose hard work and encouragement instilled in me the belief that I should never settle. Between Robin's guidance, my parents' example, and my children's inspiration, I find the drive to keep elevating myself professionally.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice is to be true to yourself — if you know something is what you want, go after it. Success won't happen overnight, and you will face setbacks, but those setbacks can become the foundation for your greatest comeback. Use every failure to become better than you were the day before. Women run the world, and once you build your own strength, no one can take it from you.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is getting different departments to work from the same page. Nurses, doctors, and other departments often feel their role is the most critical, but it's important to remember that everything starts with registration. When people take the time to communicate and truly listen to one another, they begin to understand that every role carries equal importance in delivering patient care.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Balance is essential to me, since I run a 24-hour department where situations can arise at any hour, while I also have a home, a family, and responsibilities as a wife and mother to manage. I try to make time both for my work and for the people who matter most to me. Respect is equally important — I believe it's a two-way exchange, and while not everyone will extend it, I choose to remain kind and treat people fairly regardless. Finally, hard work is a value passed down from my parents, who worked tirelessly to provide for our family. I believe that anything worth having requires effort, determination, and the willingness to go after it.
