About Evelyn

Evelyn Wade is an entrepreneur who founded A Stitch Away Sewing and Alterations four years ago in Canal Fulton, Ohio. She provides alterations for civilian clients, local high school choir and plays, the Dance Movement program, and individuals needing services for prom, homecoming, bridesmaid, and wedding attire. A sophomore pursuing a degree in digital marketing and analytics at Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio, with an expected graduation in May 2029, Wade remains an active member of the 4-H program. There she mentors two younger 4-H sewers and draws on skills she developed through the organization since her youth. She also works as a YMCA swim instructor teaching five classes weekly and previously served as a social media ambassador for the Ohio Farm Bureau. Wade attributes her success to the independence fostered when her parents adopted her special needs brother from China, the mentorship of her 4-H advisor, and the support of her parents, noting that it takes a village. She values character as the foundation of who one is, along with leadership and mentorship, and advises young women entering her field to never underestimate themselves and to always believe in their abilities.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Evelyn

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success comes from the push to independence when my parents adopted my special needs brother from China, which was a huge shift. My 4-H advisor took me under her wing and mentored me around that time. My parents have always supported me. It takes a village.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Success doesn't happen within a box. Taking the time to step out of your comfort zone, while it can be scary, is going to be some of the best experiences you've ever had. Always be willing to learn.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Never underestimate yourself. Never feel like you aren't enough. Just believe in yourself, and believe in yourself because you're gonna be your biggest supporter.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is staying relevant when we have a lot of technology push. I'm working on transferring to an online booking platform. The biggest opportunity is continued growth and getting more experiences.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Character is the foundation of who you are. Leadership has been pivotal, pushed into positions early by my 4-H advisor. Mentorship is key because you transfer skills to others effectively.
