Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the strength and resilience of my mother, who raised three children on her own after becoming widowed at a young age. Her determination and faith shaped my mindset. I also credit the influential leaders and mentors who invested in me throughout my career, including Joan Evans, Vian Antrim, and Dino Atkins, who believed in my growth and helped shape my leadership journey.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is to invest in yourself because no one else will do it for you. Another guiding principle I live by is “inspect what you expect.” I strongly believe in servanthood—focusing on the development of others, building strong teams, and recognizing that leadership is about lifting others so the entire organization can succeed.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell young women entering nursing to have a true passion for caring for people. Skills can be taught, but compassion, dedication, and commitment cannot. Nursing is a lifelong learning journey that requires resilience, strong listening skills, and a genuine desire to help others heal and improve their lives.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge in nursing today is the ongoing nursing shortage and staffing pressures, which became even more difficult after COVID-19. Another challenge is increasing competition in the healthcare market, which impacts recruitment and retention. However, this also creates opportunities for professional growth, expanded healthcare services, and innovation in how care is delivered.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are high integrity, honesty, and transparency. I believe in being authentic and true to my word. I also strongly follow the principle of treating others as I would want to be treated. For me, leadership is grounded in trust, respect, and consistency in both professional and personal life.
