Ten minutes with Fabiola

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to resilience, discipline, and a deep sense of purpose rooted in service and impact. Growing up in Haiti and engaging in international spaces has taught me how to adapt, stay grounded, and remain focused even in uncertain or challenging environments.

My growth has also been shaped by the guidance of mentors and professors who encouraged me to embrace opportunities without always having complete clarity from the start. That mindset of saying yes, then figuring it out with determination and focus, has opened doors in diplomacy, advocacy, and global leadership that have shaped my journey. It also taught me the importance of stepping outside of comfort zones, because that is often where the most meaningful transformation happens.

Along the way, I have learned that discipline is not only about consistency in action, but also about consistency in mindset, choosing to keep going, keep learning, and keep improving even when outcomes are not immediate. I have also learned the value of patience, understanding that meaningful impact is built over time and through sustained effort rather than instant results.

I also attribute my development to the experiences and responsibilities I have taken on in international spaces, which have strengthened my leadership, communication, and ability to navigate complex global discussions. Each role has reinforced the importance of preparation, adaptability, and humility in leadership.

Above all, I attribute my success to continuous learning and intentional growth. I have learned that success is not defined by one achievement, but by the daily commitment to grow, to show up with integrity, and to use every opportunity to create meaningful and lasting impact.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received came from one of my professors, who encouraged me never to say no to opportunities simply because I did not yet know how everything would work out. Instead, I was taught to say yes first, then remain focused, disciplined, and committed to figuring it out along the way.

That advice reshaped the way I approach my career in diplomacy, advocacy, and international engagement. It taught me that growth often begins outside of comfort zones, and that many of the most meaningful opportunities come with uncertainty that requires courage and adaptability. It also helped me understand that readiness is not always a prerequisite for progress; sometimes it is the result of choosing to step forward anyway.

It also reinforced the importance of trusting the learning process. Success is not about having all the answers at the beginning, but about the willingness to grow into the opportunity with consistency, resilience, and intention. Along the way, every experience becomes a lesson that builds both competence and confidence, shaping not only professional skills but also character and leadership.

It further taught me the value of persistence when things feel overwhelming or unfamiliar. Instead of stepping back from challenges, I learned to approach them with curiosity and problem-solving, trusting that clarity often comes through action rather than hesitation.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The advice I would give to young women entering this field is to trust the value of your voice, even when you are still learning and growing. You do not need to have everything figured out to deserve a seat at the table; your perspective already matters.

Be willing to say yes to opportunities, even when they feel uncertain. Some of the most transformative experiences come from stepping into spaces where you are still learning how things work. What matters is your willingness to grow, adapt, and stay committed.

It is also important to advocate for yourself. Speak up, ask questions, and do not shrink your presence to make others comfortable. Leadership in this field is not only about knowledge, but also about confidence, consistency, and courage.

Equally important is learning how to build meaningful relationships. Mentors, peers, and collaborators will play a key role in your growth, so surround yourself with people who challenge you, support you, and push you to evolve.

Do not be afraid of failure or imperfection. Every experience, including setbacks, contributes to your development and prepares you for greater responsibility and impact.

Finally, stay grounded in your values and purpose. This work requires resilience, patience, and integrity, but it also gives you the opportunity to create meaningful impact and contribute to global change.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is ensuring that youth participation in global governance moves beyond symbolic inclusion to meaningful decision-making power. While young people are increasingly present in international spaces, there is still a gap between representation and real influence in shaping policy outcomes.

Another challenge is the growing complexity of global crises, including climate change, conflict, inequality, and human rights violations, which require coordinated, interdisciplinary solutions. Navigating these issues demands not only expertise but also stronger collaboration across governments, institutions, and civil society. Additionally, limited access to resources, funding, and sustained institutional support can make it difficult for many young leaders, especially those from vulnerable or underrepresented communities, to fully participate and scale their impact.

At the same time, there are significant opportunities emerging. Digital platforms and global connectivity have made it easier for young leaders to engage, organize, and contribute to international dialogue in ways that were not possible before. This has expanded access to advocacy spaces and created new pathways for leadership, storytelling, and global influence.

There is also a growing recognition of the importance of youth voices in diplomacy, sustainable development, and climate action. This shift is opening doors for more inclusive policymaking and innovative approaches to global challenges, particularly as institutions begin to prioritize intergenerational collaboration.

Overall, while the field is demanding and constantly evolving, it offers powerful opportunities to shape a more equitable, sustainable, and inclusive global future through persistent engagement, collaboration, and advocacy.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are integrity, purpose, and resilience. Integrity guides how I lead, how I make decisions, and how I show up in every space, ensuring that my actions remain aligned with my principles even when no one is watching.

Purpose is the foundation of everything I do. It drives my commitment to climate action, human rights, education equity, and youth empowerment, and reminds me that my work is ultimately about service and meaningful impact rather than personal recognition.

Resilience is equally essential, as it allows me to remain grounded and focused in the face of challenges, uncertainty, and complex global environments. It has taught me to view obstacles as opportunities for growth and learning rather than setbacks.

Alongside these, I deeply value empathy, discipline, and continuous learning. These values allow me to stay connected to the communities I serve, remain consistent in my efforts, and continue evolving as a leader in both personal and professional spaces.

I also place strong importance on collaboration and respect, recognizing that meaningful global change cannot be achieved alone but through collective effort and shared understanding. Open-mindedness and cultural awareness are equally important to me, especially in international spaces where diverse perspectives must be heard and valued.

Finally, I value courage and boldness, the courage to speak up, to take initiative, and to step into unfamiliar spaces even when the outcome is uncertain, and the boldness to lead with confidence and conviction. These qualities have been essential in shaping my journey and continue to guide how I approach both challenges and opportunities.
