Her Story
About Faith
I've been in my current field for a little over a year, having made a transition from luxury hospitality where I spent 18 years of my career. I met my business partner through my previous role in hospitality, and that networking connection led me to where I am today as VP of Business Development with Empire Energy. My proudest moment isn't a specific achievement, but rather the fact that every day we're still moving forward. I left behind something I was so comfortable in - I could do it in my sleep - and we've met and gone beyond the goals we set when we went into business together. Right now, we're working on growing our business with a goal to double in size by December. We're buttoning up an entire new training portfolio and have hired a new talent integration and acquisition specialist. My days vary - I could be out in the field meeting with clients all over the DFW area, or sitting behind a desk at the office. What I'm most grateful for is that this new career path has given me the chance to attend my son's games and experience more of his life, something I had to miss more than I wanted to in my previous career.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Faith
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the really good advice I've received from women in roles before me. Throughout my career, I've had women trainers pretty much at every step of the way, and I can think back to every trainer I've ever had and come up with some great advice that I've been given. In the industry I came from, there were a lot of male leaders, but a lot of women leading communities. The advice I received was definitely not to judge a book by its cover, and to lead with kindness. Women leadership throughout my career is what has gotten me where I'm at today.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've received is not to judge a book by its cover, and to lead with kindness. This advice came from the many women trainers I've had throughout my career, and it has truly shaped how I approach my work and leadership.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Stand up for what you know is right. I believe that it is pivotal for all leaders to approach with empathy and respect. Come at every situation with empathy and respect, and in my experience, it encourages engagement and promotes growth for yourself.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Being one of the only women at the table is both a challenge and an opportunity. There are not as many execs in my field that look like me, so I would love to see more women at these tables. The men I work with are often great human beings, and I have a great time getting to network and learn from them, but it's always nice to see your girls at the table with you.
