Her Story
About Falisa
After 27 years in law enforcement where I served as a detective and ran our juvenile diversion program, I retired and spent the last 8 years building Peacock Training and Consulting Group. My company addresses the human impact of high-responsibility work, with a special focus on vicarious trauma and its effects on professionals and their families. I earned my bachelor's in criminal justice, master's in administration of criminal justice, and PhD in psychology from Walden University while working, completing the doctorate after retirement. I serve as a board member of NAMI Greater Cleveland Chapter and am connected with the Hope Center's Hope Campus.

01What do you attribute your success to?
My success comes from the experiences I had on the job as a police officer. I'm a servant at heart and want to create safe spaces for people to learn skills to become their highest, most authentic selves. What keeps me going is helping people navigate their human experiences a little easier through my business.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received was to slow down. In law enforcement the work causes the nervous system to heat up, so I have to practice slowing down because I'm so used to that state from being in the profession. It helps across all areas of my life.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would advise any person following a path like mine to be sure not to lose themselves, to take good care of themselves along the way, and choose themselves first.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The field is very broad right now. The opportunity is finding your niche and the gap, then coming up with programming or training in that area to support other people through training, learning, and educating.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The most important values to me in my personal life and my professional life are integrity, honesty, and leadership. Those are the top 3.
