Her Story
About Fang
I joined TSMC at the end of 2023, and I've been working on-site in Arizona for close to 2.5 years now, with about 2 years in my current role as scheduler and planner for the tool installation department. My background is actually in medicine - I'm an RN - so this was a very pivotal direction in my career path. It was an awesome opportunity that was presented in front of me, and I decided to give it a try. In my day-to-day work, I run the schedule and plan for the department, managing all the semiconductor tools that wafers run through during production. I work with different vendors, and each vendor has a different route and date for the tools that are set for different phases. Currently, we're working on stage 2, so I'm in charge of making sure that the tools coming in have enough trays to work on, that they're installed properly, and connected to our base build here in the fab. I review schedules with the trades and internally with TSMC, making sure we're driving the project to the finish line and meeting our milestones and key dates. When I first started, T1, our first fab, wasn't in operation yet - it was heavily a construction zone. Right now we are producing chips, so I would say that's a really good milestone. I was fortunate to be paired with a work buddy when I onboarded who showed me the many different pieces involved in the entire fab and helped me understand what all the different departments do in this whole production line. Understanding the whole process line and what each step involves, who is involved, and what is involved in those steps has helped me use my critical thinking to identify problems and figure out the root cause, so I know which stakeholders to contact to come up with solutions.

Ten minutes with Fang
01What do you attribute your success to?
I feel like a lot of it is really just multitasking, and time management and prioritizing the challenges in front of me. I feel like prioritizing is everything here. A lot of the time, my managers would ask me for certain things, and when they need something, they need it yesterday. So I'm already late to what I need to deliver. To me, I feel like time management is a very crucial part of my daily work, and prioritizing comes with that. I have a clear set of mind, planning out the things that I need to get done, and I feel like that was something that I've always been pretty good with.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say just take on the challenge. Everybody in my industry currently came from a different background. It's a place where you see a lot of talent just co-work together and making sure everything is possible. So I would say don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. For me, I came from a medical background - I'm an RN - so to be able to pivot in such different directions, I feel like that itself requires a lot of courage, and there's a lot of uncertainties in front of you, but you deal with the challenges one at a time, and you can conquer it. You should not be afraid of what's in front of you. Take your gut, believe in your gut, believe in yourself, and take on the challenge.
