01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my work ethic, determination, and the fact that I genuinely care about what I do. I’m the kind of person who will figure it out, even if I have to learn something new along the way. I take pride in being dependable, helping others, and making sure the job gets done right. I’ve taken on a lot of different responsibilities throughout my career, and each one has taught me something new. I don’t give up easily, and I’m always willing to learn, grow, and do whatever it takes to get the job done.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to never be afraid to learn something new and to always be willing to step up. You don’t have to know everything when you start, but you should be willing to ask questions, learn from your mistakes, and keep growing. I’ve learned that sometimes the opportunities that push you outside of your comfort zone are the ones that help you grow the most. And always treat people with respect—you never know who you may be working with or where your career may take you.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice would be to believe in yourself and don’t be afraid to speak up. You don’t have to know everything right away—be willing to ask questions, learn, and take on new challenges. Don’t let anyone make you feel like you aren’t capable of doing something because you’re a woman. Work hard, stand up for yourself, and know your worth. Most importantly, don’t be afraid to take up space at the table. Your voice and your ideas matter, and you earned your seat there.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I think one of the biggest challenges in local government right now is doing more with limited resources. Small municipalities often have employees wearing several different hats, so staying organized, keeping up with changing regulations, and meeting the needs of the community can be challenging.
At the same time, I see a lot of opportunity in improving technology and finding better ways to serve the public. There are so many tools available now that can make processes more efficient and communication with residents easier. I think small communities have a great opportunity to modernize while still keeping that personal connection that makes local government special.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me are honesty, respect, hard work, and treating people the way I would want to be treated. I believe in being dependable and following through when I say I’m going to do something. I also value kindness and being willing to help others, even when it isn’t necessarily my responsibility.
In both my work and personal life, I try to lead by example and stay true to who I am. I want people to know that they can count on me, that I will always do my best, and that I genuinely care about the people around me and the community I serve.
