About Farah
Farah Haseen is an event organizer based in New Jersey with 14 years of experience in the field. Born and raised in Bangladesh, she earned a master's degree there in 2002 and began her career as a kindergarten teacher before working as a humanitarian assistance worker in Afghanistan from 2004 to 2007 on a World Bank-funded project. After immigrating to the United States and getting married, Haseen started her event organizing business. Haseen organizes the Purple Festival, an annual event in March that recognizes outstanding women from different communities in education, health, and other sectors. She worked with the state of New Jersey on COVID information and Census 2020 efforts, for which she and her organization received an award. Haseen serves on the Board of Education as a teacher and attributes her success to the support of her parents. She is fluent in Bengali and English and maintains the website www.purplefestival.com.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Farah
01What do you attribute your success to?
My parents' support made me who I am today. They are my strength. Both of them died in COVID within 6 months, but it was not possible without them.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Whatever you are doing, just do it attentively and minutely. Do the best you can. Nobody is perfect, so try to be perfect but do not run for the perfection because nothing is perfect.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Just listen to your heart and go for it.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Women from my country face more than 1,000 challenges every day at home, from husbands, in-laws, society, and workplace due to lack of information access and mobility. Even educated women with doctoral degrees in leading positions face grim realities at home.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty and integrity. Whatever I do, I want to do with honesty and integrity. Always be myself and do what I feel like doing.
