About Farah
Farah Qadeer is a green building architect specializing in environmental sustainability and building energy efficiency. She currently serves as Senior Sustainable Design Project Manager at the New York City School Construction Authority in the Technical Standards Division on the sustainability team. In this role she reviews drawings to ensure compliance with building energy codes and performs sustainability reviews while also handling the communications side of research and development, outreach to building manufacturers, and drafting technical reports and studies on environmental sustainability for buildings. She previously worked at the New York City Department of Buildings as an energy code plans examiner reviewing drawings and flagging energy code violations. A 2012 graduate of the City College of New York where she majored in architecture, she discovered her passion for building energy efficiency during her studies and participated in the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon as communications lead on the design-build team. She has been in government service for over 15 years working on public projects and is also a green building journalist who writes for publications to educate others about sustainability. Her professional affiliations include membership in the International Code Council, the United States Green Building Council, and Climate Reality as well as service on national code committees including the National Green Building Standard and drafting the New York City Energy Conservation Code 2025. She is an alumna of the City College of New York Architecture Alumni group and a former zoning board member for Saddle River, New Jersey.
