Farah QUADRI

Makeup Instructor

Farah Quadri’s journey into makeup artistry began far from the traditional path. Raised in India in a family of doctors, she discovered at a young age that her passion leaned toward creativity rather than medicine. Instead of playing with dolls, she became fascinated with colors, nature, and artistic expression, often studying the shades of flowers and leaves and recreating them through painting. After marriage and motherhood, Farah decided to pursue something independently for herself and recognized how many women around her admired makeup but lacked the confidence or guidance to learn it. Determined to turn her passion into a profession, she enrolled in the International Academy of Makeup and began building her career from the ground up, despite having few connections and little support when she first started in the industry.
Over the past seventeen years, Farah has established herself as a respected state-certified international makeup artist known for her versatility, artistry, and ability to connect with clients from all backgrounds. Based in the Chicago area, she has worked with more than a thousand brides and has created looks for runway shows, red carpet appearances, television productions, editorial shoots, actors, models, and fashion campaigns. Her work spans all ethnicities and styles, reflecting her belief that makeup should enhance individuality and confidence rather than create a mask. Farah was recognized as one of the first hijabi Muslim makeup artists in Chicago to walk the pre-Oscars red carpet and receive an invitation to the Oscars, and in 2017 she earned a nomination for Best Makeup Artist of the Year through a designer collaboration. Despite these accomplishments, she continues to challenge herself creatively and remains committed to evolving within the industry.
Education and mentorship have become central parts of Farah’s career and personal mission. Inspired by one of her own instructors during makeup school, she dreamed of one day teaching future artists herself. That vision became reality when she was invited to join London Eyes as an instructor, teaching Bollywood makeup, Indian bridal artistry, runway techniques, and professional application skills at locations in Rosemont and Oak Brook. Following the pandemic, she continued teaching independently from her home studio, offering affordable classes designed to help women build confidence through makeup. For Farah, the true reward of her work is not recognition or financial success, but the emotional transformation she witnesses in her clients. Seeing women feel empowered, confident, and beautiful after sitting in her chair remains the driving force behind both her artistry and her dedication to inspiring others.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my passion for makeup and color, along with the perseverance and independence that helped me navigate the challenges of starting out in the industry. The journey was not always easy, and it required a great deal of patience and dedication to continue growing. What motivates me most is the ability to help my clients feel confident and empowered through my work, and that continues to inspire me every day.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

There's an instructor named Ashley who taught me and I said to myself one day I will be on the other side of the chair teaching she was very pivotal in my career and the owner of the London Academy actually called me when I didn't even apply for the position and offered me the same role that Ashley once had

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice is to start now if you are truly passionate about this field. There will always be obstacles and moments of uncertainty, but patience, persistence, and passion are essential. Continue building your skills, stay committed to learning, and focus on developing meaningful connections within the industry. Growth takes time, but consistency and dedication will open many doors.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in this field is building recognition from the ground up, especially in a highly competitive industry. The effects of COVID also created limitations for training opportunities and access to learning spaces, while some cultural groups still face barriers to visibility and representation. At the same time, there are many exciting opportunities through diverse commercial projects, teaching, community and charity events, and increased exposure through collaborations and featured work.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that matter most to me are inspiring confidence in others, generosity, passion, independence, and service. I believe in sharing knowledge and supporting others, whether through affordable teaching opportunities or charity work within the community. I strive to bring authenticity and purpose into everything I do, both professionally and personally.
